M & M Stable, owned and managed by Susan and John Moore, has often ranked among the higher quality thoroughbred racing operations in the United States since its inception in 2000. Whereas some partnership operators spend huge sums to purchase already proven runners, M & M has focused on buying more reasonably-priced yearlings and occasionally two-year-olds, and developing them into high-quality racehorses who can compete in allowance races and stakes races at the major racetracks in the United States.
M & M’s ongoing success at such a high level can be attributed to its consistent and careful selection process, its patient and very hands-on approach to training and healthcare, and its detailed focus on racing management.
The M & M team is led by Susan Moore, who has been racing and breeding thoroughbreds for over 20 years. Susan, along with a partner and an investment banking group, purchased a small healthcare company in 1992 that they developed into a highly profitable company with over $200 million in sales. Susan left Dr. Leonard’s Healthcare in 2006, and she now spends her full time managing and growing the business of M & M Stable, along with her husband, John Moore, a lawyer and investment banker.
M & M believes that racing partnerships provide the best way to participate in the business of thoroughbred horse racing, because they offer units that enable partners to define an acceptable level of investment and to spread that risk over a number of horses. Even the wealthiest participants in the racing business band together in partnerships to spread their investments. The simple fact remains: the more horses one owns, the more chances one has to win.
